Details Job Summary Carry out theoretical research in the EPSRC project on "Software Engineering By Automated SEarch (SEBASE)" and publish research papers in high impact journals and conferences. Main Duties 1. Carry out research in the EPSRC project on "Software Engineering By Automated SEarch (SEBASE)" in characterising software engineering problems in terms of EA-hardness, analysing theoretically average computation time of EAs on selected software engineering problems, developing novel EAs and other meta-heuristic optimisation algorithms for software engineering problems. (80%) Duties include, but are not limited to: To plan and develop research contributions to subject area using methodologies, critical evaluations, interpretations, analyses and other appropriate techniques To publish research papers in high impact international journals, magazines and conferences. To complete assigned tasks within agreed work schedule to ensure that outcomes are delivered on time. To suggest and contribute to the development of research techniques, models and methods in collaboration with colleagues used by the project, Cercia, the Natural Computation Group and the School. To organise project meetings and research/industrial workshops. To help prepare and write new grant proposals that are related to SEBASE but are not covered by the SEBASE project. To disseminate research findings using appropriate and effective media such as publications in journals, conferences and research seminars etc To provide guidance to other staff and students on own specialist area To prepare papers for Steering groups and other bodies To analyse and interpret the results of own research and generate ideas based on outcomes 2. Assist with PhD student project supervision. (10%) 3. Assist with project management. (5%) 4. Assist with teaching activities, e.g., lecturing, tutoring and MSc/BSc project supervision. (5%) Decision Making/Problem Solving (i) without reference to others Conducting research in accordance with the specified research project. Writing papers for conferences, magazines and journals. Assisting PhD student supervision. (ii) after consulting others Assisting with teaching activities. Submitting papers to journals and conferences. Attending conferences or workshops. Organising project meetings and workshops. (iii) or that would be referred to someone else Recruitment. Financial matters. Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required ESSENTIAL First degree in evolutionary optimisation and hold or be working towards the achievement of PhD in evolutionary optimisation or a closely related area, especially on theoretical issues Excellent academic achievement evidenced by high-quality publications or/and PhD thesis on theoretical studies in evolutionary optimisation or a closely related area Understanding and experience of research methods and processes in evolutionary optimisation and its applications Excellent skills in theoretical (mathematical) analysis and computational studies in evolutionary optimisation and meta-heuristic optimisation in general Excellent problem-solving skills Self-motivated and proactive Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member as well as independently Excellent written and oral communication skills and inter-personal skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Good knowledge of software engineering DESIRABLE Interest in working with industry and solving software engineering problems Ability to assist with PhD student supervision Ability to supervise MSc/BSc student projects and teach effectively Communication Skills Contact / Purpose/Skills Required Research Project Staff / Cooperation on research and research-related matter.
