Job Summary

Carry out research in the EPSRC project on "Market Based Control of Complex Computational Systems" in market based control, evolutionary games, co-evolution or a closely related area, and produce scholarly publications in top international journals and conferences. The research will involve theoretical analysis.

Main Duties

1. Carry out research in the EPSRC project on "Market Based Control of Complex Computational Systems" in market based control, evolutionary games, co-evolution or a closely related area, and produce scholarly publications in top international journals and conferences. (80%)

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • To plan and develop research contributions to subject area using methodologies, critical evaluations, interpretations, analyses and other appropriate techniques
  • To publish research papers in high impact international journals and conferences.
  • To complete assigned tasks within agreed work schedule to ensure that outcomes are delivered on time.
  • To suggest and contribute to the development of research techniques, models and methods in collaboration with colleagues in the project, Cercia, the Natural Computation Group and the School.
  • To organise project meetings and small research workshops.
  • To disseminate research findings using appropriate and effective media such as publications in journals and conferences, research seminars etc
  • To provide guidance to other staff and students on own specialist area
  • To prepare papers for Steering groups and other bodies
  • To analyse and interpret the results of own research and generate ideas based on outcomes

2. Assist with PhD student project supervision. (10%)

3. Assist with teaching activities, e.g., lecturing, tutoring and MSc/BSc project supervision. (10%)

Decision Making/Problem Solving

  • Conducting research in accordance with the specified research project.
  • Writing papers for conferences, magazines and journals.
  • Assisting PhD student supervision.

(ii) after consulting others

  • Assisting with teaching activities.
  • Submitting papers to journals and conferences.
  • Attending conferences or workshops.
  • Organising project meetings and small workshops.

(iii) or that would be referred to someone else.

  • Recruitment.
  • Financial matters.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required

ESSENTIAL

  • First degree in computer science/engineering (or economics) and specialising in market based control, evolutionary games and co-evolutionary learning and hold or be working towards the achievement of a PhD in this area of specialism or a closely related area
  • Excellent academic achievement evidenced by high-quality publications or/and PhD thesis in market based control, evolutionary games and co-evolutionary learning or a closely related area
  • Understanding and experience of research methods and processes in market based control and its applications
  • Excellent skills in theoretical (mathematical) analysis and computational studies in market based control, evolutionary games and co-evolutionary learning or a closely related area
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member as well as independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and inter-personal skills
  • Excellent software development skills

DESIRABLE

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Interest in working with industry
  • Ability to assist with PhD student supervision
  • Ability to supervise MSc/BSc student projects and teach effectively
